Solar Questions, Answered — illustrative solar installation
Illustrative solar scene. Equipment and layout depend on the project.
How much solar can I install?

Start with monthly consumption and usable roof area. Then check the inverter AC rating against your connection and sanctioned load. Roof structure, shading, layout and utility review determine what can actually be installed.

How much does a system cost?

Capacity, module and inverter choices, mounting, cable routes, protection, site works and batteries all affect the price. MPE provides a project-specific quotation after reviewing the requirement; this calculator has no preset equipment price.

How does net metering work?

An approved installation records electricity imported from and exported to the utility network. Applicable credits and settlement follow the current rules and agreement. Exported energy should not automatically be valued at the retail purchase tariff.

Which is right: on-grid, off-grid or hybrid?

On-grid is primarily a grid-connected daytime energy solution. Off-grid requires a standalone energy and storage design. Hybrid can combine solar, storage and compatible sources, depending on the selected equipment and operating arrangement.

Will solar work during load shedding?

A standard on-grid inverter disconnects when the utility supply fails. Backup requires a suitable inverter, storage where needed, isolation and a properly designed essential-load circuit.

How long does installation take?

The schedule depends on capacity, site readiness, equipment delivery, roof and electrical works, and utility steps. The quotation and project programme should set out the proposed sequence; a fixed timeline is not promised here.

Is rooftop solar suitable for a factory?

A factory with a usable roof and daytime electricity demand is worth assessing. Review shifts, holidays, structural condition, transformer and switchboard interfaces, and existing generators before selecting capacity.

How much roof space is needed?

The Power Division FAQ gives a general planning range of 7–10 square metres per kWp, depending on design and technology. The calculator starts at 9 m²/kWp. A surveyed layout must account for access, shading and obstructions.

What about maintenance and warranty?

Agree cleaning access, monitoring, inspection responsibilities and service scope in the proposal. Module, inverter, battery and workmanship coverage can differ; rely on the supplied warranty documents and operating conditions.

What should I send for a survey or quotation?

Share your name, phone number, project location, recent electricity bills, roof photographs and preferred system type. For backup, add the essential appliance list and desired operating hours. MPE will review the enquiry before confirming any visit or proposal.
